I recently saw an advertisement for a piano company that has determined that the biggest reason students quit after 2-3 years is because they don't practice enough to become proficient. That leads them to feel like they are not good at it. Their solution was to have the teacher meet the student online every night of the week for 15 minutes to help them practice. I'm not sure how practical that is, however, it is intriguing if I could work out the logistics.
Actually, several years ago, I made practice videos for the pieces in the 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B books of Celebrate Piano. It was my intention to provide parents and students with a reminder of how to read the pieces, what they sound like and how to practice them. Unfortunately, not many people use them.
Here is an example: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/b7kli8nnvuq9y/Videos. There are three different videos in this folder. One is called the tutorial. That is where I describe all the parts you need to be able to learn the piece. I describe the notes, where they are, how long they are, how to read them. Then I count out the rhythm, play the piece counting, and play the piece with interval names. Another video is the slow video. This is a version you could use to practice playing the piece so you know whether you are playing it correctly. The last is a final version, up to speed. These are designed to help the student practice the piece correctly. I made these same versions for every piece in the level 2 books.
